ALEXANDRA GALKINA was born in Moscow in 1982. Since 1997, she’s been taking part in a variety of art projects. In 1997-1998, she participated in the School of Contemporary Art project in Moscow. After that, she joined the Moscow Radek Community, contributing to its early work until 2002.
Her first solo exhibition took place in 2003, in the Department of Contemporary Art of the State Tretyakov gallery. Her works have been shown at both, solo and group exhibitions in Russia and abroad at the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), National Center for Contemporary Art (Moscow), Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Kumu art museum (Tallin), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Museum of Moscow, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), Center for contemporary art "OUI" (Grenoble), Casa dei Tre Oci palace (Venice), Center for Contemporary Art “Zarya” (Vladivostok), Stella Art galleries (Moscow), Calvert (London), XL Gallery (Moscow), and others. In 2010, she took part in the international Biennial of Contemporary Art, Manifesta 8 (Murcia, Spain). In the same year, Alexandra Galkina received a special Stalla Art Foundation award as a part of the annual All-Russian Competition in Contemporary Art INNOVATION. She was a scholarship holder of the A-I-R Laboratory art residency programme at CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, Warsaw (2012); KulturKontakt, Vienna (2013); Artist in Residency – Lofoten, Norway (2014).
Her works are currently in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian museum, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Stella Art Foundation, Vladimir Smirnov and Konstantin Sorokin Foundation, Gazpromabank Collection, as well as private collections in Russia and abroad.
